In 2010, we witnessed the growing presence of single-use plastic bags across India and recognized the urgent need for a more sustainable alternative. We believed India’s skilled artisans could create something better—bags that were environmentally responsible, durable, practical and beautifully crafted. That vision led to the founding of JutePlanet. Our mission from the beginning has been simple: **to make sustainable bags and textiles beautiful, affordable and accessible to every retailer and household.** We are committed to promoting sustainable choices while supporting India’s rich tradition of natural craftsmanship. The Problem
India Uses 14 Billion Plastic Bags Every Year
The average single-use plastic bag is used for 12 minutes and takes over 500 years to decompose. India generates millions of tonnes of plastic waste annually — and carry bags are among the biggest contributors.
The alternative isn't complicated. Jute — India's own "golden fibre" — is 100% biodegradable, stronger than plastic and can be reused hundreds of times. Cotton bags are washable, lightweight and last for years. The problem was making them affordable, stylish and easily customisable.
We decided to solve that — by producing natural bags and textiles by artisans to serve directly from our factory to retailers, brands and eco-conscious consumers through one simple platform.

How Every Bag is Made
Artisans
We connect with best artisans that follow fair-wage practices and use natural jute, cotton, certified organic cotton or linen.
Material QC
Every roll of fabric is checked for tensile strength, weave consistency and colourfastness before production begins.
Handcrafted & Printed
Bags are hand-stitched. Custom logos are screen-printed or embroidered using eco-safe inks — no heavy metals.
Packed & Shipped
Orders are packed in recycled paper packaging (no plastic wrap!) and shipped pan-India within 2-3 business days.

JutePlanet founded in a small Kolkata workshop with 4 artisans and 8 bag styles.
Expanded to cotton bags and custom printing. First bulk order for a retail chain (500 pcs).
